2012年リリースのアルバム『Channel Orange』から10曲目のPyramids “という曲を紹介します!
アルバムのベストソングの一つとしても評判の一曲でした。
タイトル通り、「ピラミッド、エジプト、クレオパトラ」といったワードが登場する作品ですが、Part1、Part2の2部構成になっており、Part1では古代エジプトでのお話、Part2では現代のお話という大きな括りがあります。

クレオパトラはプトレマイオス朝エジプトの女王として、カエサルやアントニウスなどと外交上の理由で、肉体関係を持ったことで有名ですが、そのイメージから「男遊び」というイメージが連想されることも多々ある女性です。そのクレオパトラと、現代でストリップクラブ、風俗で働く女性を対比させた一曲になっています。

サムソンって誰だよ！となったんですがイスラエルの英雄だそう。やはり彼の書く歌詞は知的で、イメージ、想像力がすごいです。
そして、パート2ではなんとフランクオーシャンが、売春の斡旋をしている役として歌っています。途中で何度か視点が変わることにも注目していただけたら、内容がよりわかりやすくなっています。
